Description

Several years ago when Murray was conducting his annual tour to Japan with guests, the group visited Japan’s oldest and most revered straight razor Bladesmith. At the end of the two hour long visit to his shop, the 95 year old Bladesmith, obviously intrigued by both Murray’s unusual command of the language and traditional Japanese Bladesmithing comprehension, bestowed upon Murray just before the group called away in their rental van, a sizable chunk of Tamahagane, with a challenge to forge a traditional straight razor from it. At one of our regular Open House events, Murray proceeded to forge weld the Tamahagane chunk into a solid billet, and from that, forge two razors and a craft knife with the remainder. Behold the results from that challenge. The razors shave exceedingly well for being 100% homogeneous Tamahagane. We think that the old Bladesmith in Japan would be pretty proud of Murray for living up to the friendly challenge!
