ello everyone!

It's official, Spring is here! The weather in Northwest Oregon has simply been fantastic; in fact it is so nice that one of the daily struggles has been whether or not one should ride the motorcycle or the convertible to work!

Shop News

We're excited to announce a change in the way that we grind our secondary edge! As you may know, in the past Carter Cutlery neck knives have featured only a hollow ground secondary edge but now there will be more options. Future neck knives will be completed with either a flat ground, convex ground, or a hollow ground secondary edge. We're excited about this change and with knife production at its highest, we're even more excited that we simply cannot keep up with demand. Neck knives and kitchen knives are simply flying off the shelves, so as a word of caution, if you see your knife, don't delay, it may not be available for very long!

Fresh from the forge, we've added a selection of Kuro-uchi kitchen knives, a limited run of flat-ground MOAB Outdoor Knives that have been completed with custom Arizona Desert Ironwood and black G-10 handles and a small selection of Neck Knives that feature some amazing handle selections - check them all out on our New Products page! Remember, if that piqued your interest, pay special attention to the bottom of our newsletter for our special offer on Kuro-uchi knives! You're not going to want to miss out!

On a different note, the new shop and office has proved to be a fantastic benefit for Carter Cutlery and with almost twice as much space as our old shop; our new location has allowed us to expand our production, increase our efficiency, and focus on what made this all possible: you, our loyal supporters.  Thank you!

Traditional Bladesmithing School News

May has been a great month for our Traditional Bladesmithing School; we've just completed a full six-day Intensive Bladesmithing Course and it was amazing to see the results the students produced after just one week of study - we'll post photographs on our Facebook page for you to view! In addition to our six-day Intensive Bladesmithing Course, on May 20th, Murray will teach six-day Sword Forging Course that is certain to yield some fantastic results, and if you're as excited as me, be sure to keep yourself updated by visiting the Carter Cutlery Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/CarterCutlery

By the way, we're excited to announce that Carter Cutlery is currently seeking accreditation as a federally recognized vocational institution. Accredited vocational institutions are eligible to seek approval for federal student aid monies such as Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, and even the G.I Bill. This will be the perfect vehicle for those of you who wish to break away from the shackles of modern employment and learn skills that will allow you to truly leave your mark on the world. We'd love to hear your feedback about this venture; if you like what we're doing or if you have any comments, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Open House News

As many of you know, if you're in the Hillsboro, Oregon area on a Thursday night, the place to be is at Carter Cutlery! Each demonstration has been more popular than the last, with regulars coming every week not wanting to miss out on the show. We guarantee that there isn't a presentation similar in North America, let alone the world.  So if you're in or near Portland stop by and visit Murray and the Carter Cutlery staff, you're sure to enjoy yourselves and experience a demonstration that will be sure to change your views on cutlery!

This week, on May 16th, 2013 we'll be offering kitchen knife forging demonstration. Also, please take note that during July we will not be scheduling any Open House events as Murray will be travelling to Japan for business.

Thank you once again for a wonderful month, we're honored to be able to serve you and your cutlery needs.

Stay sharp!

Sincerely,

 Testimonials
"
I brought my son to your open house last week. We were riveted by your demonstration. There are not a lot of things my kiddo gets excited about but he is inspired by your work and talks about it a lot. As a parent, I so appreciate the opportunity to expose my son to craftsmanship and hands on building of such beautiful knives. It's great to get him engaged in something other than computers and video games. Thank you so much! We will be back."
