 Murray Solicited by
Orange County Choppers

In an absolutely unexpected turn of events, we've been approached by the popular TV program "Orange County Choppers" to commission a special, one of a kind, knife-makers bike! At the moment we're still undecided whether this is the proper direction for the company. This could be a great opportunity for us to reach as many cutlery lovers as possible and it could launch Carter Cutlery to the national spotlight. However, it has the potential to make us so busy that we couldn't keep up with our current level of outstanding customer service either. I will continue to seek God's wisdom and pray about this decision. It sure would be cool to drive to the forge on a Carter Cutlery Chopper!

The OCC show needs $350,000 per show and their subjects have to provide that money up front. At Carter Cutlery, we currently have our money tied up in other investments and could only go forward with the OCC TV bike project if a sponsor, or group of sponsors come forward. This is an open invitation for any who have the means and are interested in participating in knife making TV history. If there is no interest, we will interpret that as a sign that our customers would rather us stick with our current level of status that allows us to always personally take care of our valued customers. Murray's cell phone number is 503-816-6556 for serious inquiries only please.

Below is the email we received:

"Hello Murray

My name is Giuseppe Andolini and I am from Occ Orange County Choppers. I have had an idea of doing a knife makers bike for some time now and have actually did plenty of research on several private knife makers that are out there. I have to be honest, your story touched me the absolute most. I think that the story being told on our show the American Chopper on the Discovery channel will show our millions of viewers your story and they too will feel what I felt when I read and seen it. I have been approached by a couple other knife makers that can financially pay for the project because they are much larger companies and have the money, however if you are a fan of the show, then you will know that we don't just let anyone on our show. They must fit the Occ brand and the story has to fit with Occ and the American Chopper. I am contacting you because I am I am not quite sure if you are going to be able to fund the project, or if you might know of someone that might to sponsor you for the project. I sure hope so because I am quite sure that Occ will just skip the knife maker project altogether if they can't get you. I have attached our company overview to this letter and it will give you a much better idea of what it is that Occ does and what it has done for other companies that have been on our show. I am quite sure that if you do the show, millions of people around the world will now know about Murray Carter knives. Let's not forget the motorcycle world. You can bring your bike to shows such as Daytona bike week and Sturgis bike week and all of the millions of bikers that will buy your knives. All of them carry pocket knives and now will know about yours. It will do miracles for your company for sure. It will change Murray Carter knives forever. Please look over our overview and see if this project is doable for you. I sure hope it is because I am a huge fan. I was going to purchase a knife from your website and give it to Sr becaus e he carries an exacta knife and I just think that's hilarious and I know that a Murray Carter knife would be much better, however I just have not had the time to buy it for him. I sure hope to hear from you soon. Thanks"

 Carter Cutlery Traditional
Japanese Bladesmithing School

May was truly an incredible month for the Bladesmithing School, the most active month the school has had to date! In the beginning of May we were joined by three students from around the United States, all had the desire and drive to learn professional sharpening from Murray. The class was amazingly successful, each of the students learned and enjoyed themselves immensely, and we're confident that these students will be the first to receive a Certificate of Achievement for establishing that 'scary sharp' edge Murray is so famous for. After our Professional Sharpening class finished we dove straight into a six-day Intensive Bladesmithing class with four students from the United States and Canada. It seemed as though these guys must have been long lost friends, because even on day one everyone was enjoying themselves immensely! Some fantastic knives were produced, and one student actually let Murray shave him! And finally, at the end of May, Murray taught a six-day Intensive Bladesmithing class where we had a student fly from as far as Australia to join. In an incredible display of character, our Australian student (Takka) flew into Portland a week in advance just to lend a helping hand around the new location - truly incredible! We were very thankful to receive the help, and at the end of the week, as with all of our students, we were sad to see the them leave.

Enough of what I thought of the classes, here is what the students had to say:

 New Bladesmithing Class

We're also very excited to announce the beginning of a brand new class! Inspired by our students that have completed the class and have now begun to setup their own shops, this new class will teach students how to forge their own knives without the use of a Japanese power hammer or a revolving waterstone. This class is truly geared towards the hobbyist who wants to establish a shop in their backyard using commonly accessible tools. So if this class sounds like it would be perfect for you, please don't hesitate to give Murray a call at (503) 816-6556, and ask him about the newest 501 - Basic Tool Intensive Six-Day Course!

If you'd like to receive our brand new Bladesmithing Class brochure, you can email us at with your contact information and the subject "New Class Brochure" and we'll mail it to you right away!

Until our next email news, stay sharp and may God richly bless you!

What Our Customers Are Saying...

"Just wanted to thank you for posting that video on Youtube regarding convex edge sharpening, just tried it on a new Svord Peasant knife with carbon steel, they come horribly sharpened after all it's only a 12 dollar knife, I used a combination 1,000-6,000 grit Japanese synthetic  water stone and although I still haven't perfected leaving the blade fully polished I left my edge fully convexed and hair shaving sharp beyond my wildest results on other blades or steels, Thank you so much and Your work is truly appreciated.
God bless,"
