Speaking of new knives, in production Murray is forging 50+ Neck Knives and Whitecrane Knives, of which only a handful will be released at a time. Because of this we we highly recommend keeping alert, when they are posted because they are going to move quickly! Speaking of moving quickly, we broke a record with these two knives:

A first for 2013, forged and folded into 576-layers of steel, these Ladder Damascus Mastersmith Whitecrane Outdoor knife with Premium Arizona Desert Ironwood and a Raindrop Damascus Mastersmith Neck Knife with Exotic Burl handles were both purchased almost instantly. These incredible knives are going to a very lucky home!

In other news, Shamus Dotson, Murray's apprentice of nine years, applied to join American Bladesmith Society. With his skill, experience and training under Murray, in four years time Carter Cutlery may have another Mastersmith to join the ranks!

Guests from Japan

In August we had the honor of hosting two guests from the Takefu Specialty Steel Company of Fukui, Japan. Mr. Michiro, vice president of Takefu Specialty Steel and his assistant, Ms. Juno Rikako, who were visiting Oregon to attended the Western Blacksmith Conference held in Mt. Hood, Oregon on August 23rd, 2013. Being in our own backyard, Carter Cutery had to attend and what an event it was! It was an incredibly enjoyable event with blacksmithing competitions and guest speakers such as Bob Kramer! Even our guests got involved with the festivities and Mr. Michiro had the opportunity to forge a blade under the watchful eye of Mastersmith Bill Burke. The sound of` hammer striking steel must have overwhelmed Murray because it was only after a few minutes that he joined in and hand-forged a blade, too.

A Damaged Appendage

After the conference Murray and his guests headed straight to Bend, Oregon to attend an Outdoor Safari hosted by the folks at Safari Club International. This was quite the experience for our guests, especially coming from an environment with such strict firearm regulations. It was a true American experience and a highlight of the trip!

Before our guests departed for Japan Murray wanted to complete four knives using the steel they brought, but sadly in his haste he accidentally smashed the upper portion of his thumb under the weight of the powerhammer (for those brave enough, click here to view the damage). Even though the accident was relatively minor and Murray was able to return to work in a short amount of time, this accident left a major impact on Murray.

Murray greatly appreciated the kind messages and well-wishes he received! Thank you! Is Getting A Facelift
