Bladesmithing School News
Last week we conducted another traditional
Japanese bladesmithing class, 201 - Forging and Completion of A
Camp Knife. The class was a smashing success, with some of the
prettiest knives ever made by my students resulting from the three-day
course. You can hear
all about it from the students themselves.
really getting exciting with regards to classes. We have a student
coming all the way from Amsterdam next year to attend the 500 class
(intensive six-day class) scheduled for April 5~10, 2010 and Murray has
been invited to travel to Estonia next fall to teach a 500 class there
as well. Why don't you contact us to find out what class
possibilities are available for you!
Inner Circle Lifetime Membership
Last year, Murray put together a very special
limited offer to our patrons called the "Inner Circle
Lifetime Membership." This membership entitles members to
very privileged benefits and a bunch of free bonuses as well. After
several requests from customers, we will once again offer a very
limited number of these memberships to our most discerning patrons.
Expect to see that offer within the next ten days. The following is
what one member has to say about his experience as an Inner Circle
John Marcus, an Inner Circle Lifetime Member of Carter
making knives on and off since 1980 by stock removal and I have always
had a love of Japanese cutlery. So what could have been nicer
than to find out about Murray Carter, 17th-generation Yoshimoto
Bladesmith and certified Master Bladesmith.
Upon my new found
knowledge, I called Murray on the phone inquiring about the
possibility of taking a class from him. We quickly became friends and I
enrolled his "202 Forging and Completion of an International Pro Series
Kitchen Knife" class.
About this time, Murray offered a
special Inner Circle membership which included more classes, benefits
and perks.... After reading thru the Inner Circle membership material,
signed up as an Inner Circle member... I also like the idea of
helping support the teaching and furthering of Japanese bladesmithing
in the west.
taking the 202 class, I returned home and practiced the new techniques
had learned. I returned for the six-day 302 class which really pushed
my skill set up several levels.
am enjoying my friendship with Murray and enjoy his discussions with me
on the direction the vision of his business and bladesmithing school
enjoy the ability to contact Murray at just about anytime for his
advice and guidance on my bladesmithing projects.

Upcoming Business Trip To Japan
From December 9th, 2009, to January 8th, 2010,
Murray will be
in Japan to conduct research and study for the future business of
Carter Cutlery. Secondary to meeting several prominent Japanese
bladesmiths to further his understanding of Japanese bladesmithing,
Murray will search out the highest quality cutlery-related products
(not knives, which Murray will continue to produce, of course!) to
offer for sale on the Carter Cutlery website.
The products Murray
selects will conform to the criteria that they are able to benefit from
the excellent after-sales-service that you have come to expect from
Carter Cutlery. For example, one of the product we are already
considering are the highest quality forged-welded axe heads made by the
best smiths in
Japan. With such a product, Murray could offer sharpening and
refurbishing for the life of the tool.
Other products we are
hatchets and sickles Axes Hand-forged
kitchen items Various
gardening tools Natural
quarried water stones
is how you can contribute your input, as well as have Carter Cutlery
perform a great service for you at the same time:
Please let us know if
there is any Japanese product you would like Murray to purchase for you
while he is in Japan and personally bring back for you. We will accept
requests along with a token deposit for the item(s) and then send them
to you upon Murray’s return and receiving the balance.
Contact us right away to be assured of getting your request to us in
time for the upcoming trip.
"Thank you so much for the astounding
knife as well as the great DVDs. The knife is a real masterpiece and
I've never seen anything like it anywhere. I just love it and carry it
with me everywhere I go. You have my deepest respect and
like to thank you for opening my eyes to the world of knife sharpening.
I originally decided to acquire the skill of knife sharpening for two
simple reasons. One, it would save my restaurant some money if
I could do it on my own. Two, I use knives daily so the
sharper the better.
I was looking for reputable knife sharpening instruction, I came across
one of your videos online. You appeared to have top quality
instruction, so I ordered both of your DVD's, a coarse and a fine
Japanese waterstone, and I started practicing.
sharpening for me now a month later seems like so much more to me than
a way to save money or just another task to do... I truly
enjoy doing it!" --- Jordan
