This is the medium grit Japanese Water Stone I use regularly (pictured on the left). Its use is explained in my Blade Sharpening DVDs. Medium Grit #1000 - 207mm X 66mm X 34mm

This is an old stone... one of the first few imported in large quantities to the U.S.A.
This stone is sort of the Norton India of water stones.
Coarse enough to re-profile and thin a blade, yet fine enough to move up to a single finishing stone!
The stone does require a long soak, but you get a lot of abrasive for your money.
These old style stones are more effective than some of the newer ones, because they release grit so readily. Modern splash n go stones tend to hold onto their grit, allowing them to load up. This is my favorite 1k on the market.
