Description
In this three-day course, students will be taught how to approach blade sharpening challenges with experience and expertise. By class completion, students will be able to sharpen and refurbish tools and blades to a professional level and charge full market value for their time and effort. Secret tips on how to profit from professional sharpening will also be taught, and students will get a unique insight into the business success of Carter Cutlery. This course requires the student to pass a final test to graduate, and if successful, an official Certificate of Achievement will be conferred.
Hands-on techniques will include:
- Condition/damage assessment of blades
- Disassembly
- Rust removal
- Straightening/truing
- Sharpening
- Refurbishing
- Wrapping for delivery
Lecture topics will include:
- How to set up a work station
- How to run a sharpening service as a business
- Going rates for services
- How to manage time
- How to market sharpening skills
Prerequisite: Admission by interview only.
Classes taught one-on-one unless otherwise negotiated. Travel and lodging are at the student’s expense.
